Registration for the National Coffee Quality Contest Exceeds Expectations

Under the frame of ExpoEspeciales 2016: Latin America's leading specialty coffee fair Bogota, September 2 2016 (FNC Press) – Registration for the first National Coffee Quality Contest: Colombia Land of Diversity exceeded expectations. As opposed to the 900 coffee lots that were expected to enroll, a total of 1,260 lots from 12 different coffee growing departments registered to participate in what is sure to be an exceptional competition. The National Coffee Quality Contest seeks to ensure better prices for coffee producers, give visibility to the flavor diversity that characterizes Colombian coffee, promote and commercialize exceptional coffees both domestically and abroad, and concentrate regional and departmental initiatives in a single national contest. A panel of domestic and international coffee taters will be responsible for selecting the winners, who will participate in an international auction. The auction's base prices will be US$ 5 per pound for small lots and US$ 2 per pound for large lots. The National Coffee Quality Contest will be hosted as part of ExpoEspeciales 2016, Latin America's largest specialty coffee fair, between October 5th and October 8th 2016. ExpoEspeciales brings together coffee growers, baristas, tasters, exporters, input suppliers, coffee shop owners, traders and roasters. It offers attendees the latest trends and innovations of the Colombian coffee market, knowledge exchange between domestic and international participants, and sophisticated networking and business opportunities. Known as the trade show for lovers of the magical world of coffee, ExpoEspeciales will offer a wide range of options for all likings. In addition to hosting the first National Coffee Quality Contest, the XI Colombian Barista Championship and the VI National Tasters Championship, ExpoEspeciales will have more than 100 exhibitors and a rich academic agenda.
